Charms Goldens began in 1972, as the result of a wonderful "Golden" encounter during a family ski trip in Vermont. A big, beautiful Golden dog knocked me down in a parking lot and began showering me with kisses. As I got to my feet, he jumped up and hugged me. Of course, I had to hug him back! He then proceeded to greet and play with my children. By the time the owner had come along and apologized for his Golden's behavior, I already knew that I wanted to own this breed of dog as our family pet. "Ely" never knew that his actions would result in the start of Charms Goldens.

After our ski trip, I immediately purchased our first Golden Retriever, Apollo's Golden Charmer UD, OD, Can CDX "Tootsie." Over the next two years, I acquired four more Goldens from Jolly Kennels, home of CH Sir Duncan of Woodbury, OS. They included two males, Am/Can CH Peachy's Technical Knockout "Teak" and Am/Can CH Jolly Decembear Charm OS "Bear," and two females, CH Jolly Happy Lady of Charms CD "Happy" and Charms Jolly Seaview Cookie CD "Cookie."  These wonderful Goldens became our foundation stock, better known as our "Charms Gang."

Raising dogs came natural to us, as we combined our increasing knowledge of Goldens with our background in showing and breeding horses. We bred our first litter, had our first Bred-By Exhibitor Champion, and established the roots of what would become a breeding program based on versatility, intelligence, conformation, temperament, and the best overall health practices, so others could one day enjoy the same success.
As we became established, we continued to enjoy success, producing many fine Goldens. Our second-generation "Charms Gang" included CH Charms Truly a Treasure "Chewy," Charms Lady of Amity "Amy," Charms Snuggle Me Bear "Snuggie," and CH Charms Two Toots 'N Hollar OD "Two Toots/Tootie."

As years went by, our "Gang" became, Am/Can CH Charms Blow'em Away Twister OS "Twister," CH Charms Twist a Li'l Jazz OD "Jazz," CH Charms I'm a Tootsie Too OD "Tootsie," CH Charms Blow'em Away TK CD "TK," Charms Indanda Debear "Danda," CH Charms Toast'N'Denewbear CD OS "Tubby," CH Charms Simply Irresistable "Pepsi," CH Charms Icelanduk Travler "Trav," Charms Hearts'R'Wild & Tipsy Too "Tipsy," CH Charms Joker's Deal 'N Diamonds OD "Diamond," and BIS BISS CH Charms Jazz's Joker's Wild CD OS SDHF "Joker," who was ranked as the #1 Golden on the East Coast during 1996-1998 and the #1 breeder/owner/handled dog of 1997.

Today the Charms Gang includes CH Charms When Only Debest Wildew BISS, BOSS "Junior," CH Charms Diamonds Tux'n Tails "Tux," CH Charms Diamonds 'R Fur Ever OD "Furry," CH Charms Furry Flurry 'N A Hurry "Flurry," and soon to be Champion, Charms She's All Fired Up "Tippy."

Charms is proud to have produced well over 200 titled Goldens, including 179 (and growing) conformation Champions, along with CD, CDX, UD, HIT, WC, WCX, TD, JH, AG, and CGC titleholders. We are very proud not only of the diversity represented by these Charms Goldens, but especially of the happiness they have brought to their owners, our extended Charms family. We look forward to continuing this wonderful Charms tradition well into the future.
